Group Functionality

Pardon me if this has been addressed, but I could not find it in a search...Is there a way to make groups recall at the intensities they were recorded at?  Let me explain...

On Expression I record the following (Ch. 1-5 @ Full, Ch. 6-10 @ 80, and Ch. 11-20 @ 50) into group 1.  If I brought up "Group 1 Full" I would get Full, 80, and 50% intesities respectively...and if I brought up Group 1 @ 50, you would get 50, 40, and 25% respectively.

On Ion if i record exactly the same thing and bring it to Full, 1-20 goes to full, or bringing up at 50 gets 1-20 @ 50%.

Is there a way to make the groups perform "the expression way"?  If not, is there some other function I am not thinking of that can achieve the same thing?

  • I think you are tripping over a redefinition of the word "Group". A Group is a collection of channels with no additional attributes and is intended as a shortcut to selecting channels.

In Eos/Ion parlance, the feature you are looking for is an Intensity palette. You use Groups to select a collection of channels, and Intensity Palettes to apply levels to those selected channels. If you really want a particular combination of channel+intensity (+any other attribute) you can use Presets. Since Eos/Ion remember how a cue/preset was constructed, you can take advantage of palettes to modify things across the entire show by updating the palette.

Don't panic. It all becomes clear after a few more drinks.

  • And on Eos/Ion, [Recall From] [Intensity Palette] [1] [Enter] yeilds the same results as [Group] [1] [at] [Full] [Enter] used to on older products.  The one big difference is that IPs are referenced data, where groups were not.

    Hope this helps.
