Bug? Cue Change Breaks Preset Reference for Update

Hi,

Console Software 2.5.1

I was trying to update a preset today during a run-thru.  By the time I was ready to update the preset, the final cue of the scene was taken and the fixture I was working with was sent to its next cue reference.  Despite having "capture enabled" and all of the values being red with the "R" in the upper corner, when I hit "update" the console wanted to update the new preset that the console just went to and not the original preset that I had started to adjust a few cues earlier.  In other words, Preset A is wrong. Make adjustments on Preset A.  End of Scene FTB Q is taken, fixture is sent to Preset B in a dark mark.  Hit Update.  Console wants to update Preset B and not original Preset A.  I had to scrap the changes without updating as I could no longer trust the values of the console and the image was no longer live on stage.

Possibly related, I have noticed a number of times that my bright red manual values would often change to dark red "other user" values when the lighting team would take a cue.  If I hit "update" only the few bright red values will want to update to their presets.  Any dark red values, despite having the "R" next to them, want to update Absolute values. It became necessary to type the whole thing out..."Fixture # Focus/Beam Update Preset #.  (This would have happened on v2.5 Beta)

Shouldn't the console "remember" which preset you were trying to fix?

  • The console currently treats the current/active owner of the channels as your target, so just by capturing it, the console isn't going to remember the source cue.

So - I don't believe this is a bug, but as an operator, I see where you're coming from. The console is assuming you're always trying to update against what's currently on stage.

    Interesting thought though!
  • In this situation you should have seen Last Ref (last reference) highlighted in the update box.
Thats because the cue has taken it to another reference so it has become the last one.

If you deselected Last Ref this would have updated the right preset.

This can catch us all out but a solution for this could add other problems.
