Inconsistent handling of multiple ?color? palettes.

I've noticed a couple of odd things when applying multiple color palettes to fixtures.  It's possible it extends to other types of palettes too but I don't have the right kind of fixtures to check.

Firstly, the command:

Chan X Thru Y Color Palette A + B Enter

gets me the first fixture in Color Palette A, the last in B and a gradient between the two.  It's as if I had pressed Fan, but I didn't.

However:

Chan X Thru Y Color Palette A + B + C (+D...etc) Enter

gets me the fixtures alternating in A or B or C (and so on).  No fan applied.

Is that a bug, or a feature?  What syntax would get me two alternating colors?

Secondly, applying the two Palettes and adding a Sneak (either before or after the Palette command) results in a snap.  But when applying 3 or more it Sneaks as expected.  Again, is that expected behaviour?

  • The two vs. three color palette issue has been around for a long time. I'm glad someone else has now brought it up. I think it is a bug but haven't gotten any traction on getting it fixed. I think the it should hold whole colors unless we use the fan command and it should definitely act the same with two vs. three or more colors. Making checkerboards of color would be much faster with this working properly. If you are looking for two color alternating you have to offset odd and then even while applying each color independently.
