questions/ remarks Ion

I'm a free lance technician from Holland and interested in buying a Ion with 2 LCD displays. I've been playing with it for 2 days. I'm used to working with the expression. There are a lot of things about the Ion that makes him interesting, a lot of things I don't yet know about the Ion and some things I found very unlogical. Maybe the things I mention are things that have to be done differently, but I think most things I have to be able to figure out without a users manual. Here are some things:

The biggest problem with the Ion is for me that there are 3 displays you have to look at, because sometimes function appear on the LCDscreen other times on the encoder LCD. It would be nice that most of the choices I want to make can be made with the buttons and the S-keys. I don't want to be depending on touchscreens and a mouse. For me it doesn't work fast (mouse) and is too expensive.

If I'm patching and use a S-key to choose "Attributes" I want the functions "preheat", "Proportion" and "Curve"to appear in my encoder LCD so I can choose them with the S-keys. Now I have to take my mouse to chose the functions. I want to do as little with the mouse as possible. When I choose for "Curve" I want the different curves to appear on one of the LCD's, so I can see which choices I have.

"Fader control" When I press "Fader control" I can't get the functions under the S-keys to work except for "stop effect". All the others are not working or I'm not using it properly.

If I'm using a moving head and want them to do some effect I activate the channel and press "effect". When I press "effect" it would be nice that the list with effects would appear in one of the LCDscreens and the S-keys have the effects so you can choose them directly. Now I first have to press "effect"2 times see what number the effect has and go back to my livemode and press the number of the effect.

Maybe these things have already been posted once by someone else, but I don't have the time to read the whole forum. Sorry for this.

Hope to get respons.

  • Thanks for your comments Edwin (and sorry about the delay).

I understand your comment about the CIA versus the integral LCD, and the need to use a touchscreen or mouse.   We are working on ways that will reduce the reliance on pointing devices.   We will need to keep some of the user interface on the CIA (such as for effects editing, curve editing etc).

We will be addressing much of the rest of your comments in upcoming builds.

To use the fader controls on Ion, you hold the fader control key, pick the softkey that you want, release that softkey and then hit Load for the required fader.  In our next major feature release, this behavior will get a bit better by making the fader controls key sticky.

    Hope this helps!
