changing effects in a cue

Hello,

Is there a way to change the speed or the offset of a effect within one cue? For example, in cue 1 I have a effect running, in cue 2 i'd like to change the speed and look of this effect in a slow fadetime. Is this possible without making a copy of this effect?

Best regards,

  • Hi Robert,

The short answer is yes you can. When you create an effect the 'base level' if you like for rate, size etc is saved within the effect. However, when you play back the effect you can edit the parameters of the effect live. (Use {Displays}{Effect Status} to see the list of effects running, select the effect and alter parameters on the encoders). If you have already recorded the effect into the cue you can now Update the cue with the changes to the effect parameters. These are stored at Cue level, and will not update into the base levels of the effect. I find this a very useful feature, avoiding creating loads of effects.

On the time thing, I've never actually tried a speed up or slow down, but I think if you set the time on the effect to 'Cue' you should be able to achieve the result you are looking for.

    Hope this all makes sense.

  • Just to add to this - you shouldn't need to change the entry/exit time in the effect to cue.  Entry and exit time is, as the names suggest, for specifying what time the effect will fade in and fade out.

To make an effect speed up or slow down, go into the cue you are after, make the changes, and update to the cue.  The effect will fade to the new rate / size /offset / etc when you run the cue.  FYI - timings for effect changes are taken from part 1 of the cue.  I recently was doing a similar thing, and found that when I ran the NEXT cue efore the cue with the effect changes is complete, the effect fade will complete it's fade over the time of the cue that is currently running.  If you experience this, you may need to set up your effect on a seperate play list to prevent losing your fade time

I hope that made sense.... cheers
