Range of Cues with Follow 0:00 ( F0 ) do trigger, but no DMX output

Hey there,

I'm going to time trigger a song. Hitting play on my mediaplayer and the GO on the ETC ION.

cue Int Up Fw/Hg Comment
415 (3)   Last Cue before Song
416 (1) F0 first cue of song
417 1:20 (   1    ) F0 Starting at 1:20 after song has started
... ... F0 ...
424 4:44 ( 4 ) F0 Last Cue for the song

  1. In cue 415.
  2. GO
  3. Stage setup remains like 415 the whole song. GUI acts like it is triggering the Cues.

The work around is wait till the first cue has fade in ( I've taken three seconds )

416 (1) F0 first cue of song
417 1:17 (   1    ) F3 Starting at 1:20 after song has started

... and adjusted the delays. In my point of view, this might be a bug or the error is setting in fron of the console... You never know.
Attached are the show files. I've found 2 on my usb-pendrive, but I assume it is the last one... so hey, where is the mistake? some ideas?

Greetings,

Armin

  • Hey there, thank you for the response!

I'm new to theatre lighting, normally doing Rock. I'm not used to time code. But would really like to get into it.
To program this show I got the song and the seconds, where to hit the cues. The cues do not necessarily affect the same channels.
So, I use my VLC-Player [play] and Ion [Go] the same time, and than the effects will start at the right time. Starting every effect from the beginning of the song, avoids, that time changes in one cue affect the timing in the other cues.

My way might not be the "Ion-Way", but there might be others outside, that try the same and fail. As The GUI enables the possibility, this feature should work under all circumstances, or at least present a warning. Is there a way to report bugs?

    Improvements:
    - I do not have any MIDI-Device. This university theatre just got the Ion, next year, more money?, more equipment.
    - Is there an audio player integrated in the ion?
    - Is it possible to send MIDI over LAN from or to the Ion?
    - Is it possible to send MIDI over LAN from or to Linux/Windows?
    - Is there a audio player which i could trigger with MIDI?

Armin: ( can't acces my account, no idea why... )

  • I'm not sure I know any desk that work this way but maybe some 'Rock' desk do.
These cues would work if each cue used different channels but as you're delaying the same channels in the cues it doesn't, it would work for a couple of delays but not this many.

You need to move the delays to Follow On times but subtract the previous cue delay timing.
    Cue 417 is fine.
    Cue 418 should be a F/O of 48
    Cue 419 F/O 7
    etc etc

There is a software change request to add more delays but this is a odd way to work.

    Improvements question
    1) USB Midi devices are not that expensive.
    2) Not that you or anyone can access.
    3) Yes via UDP Strings
    4) As above using SysEx commands
    5) Yes many but is much more work then changing follow on times or using internal or external timecode.
