First off, I love that custom direct selects have been implemented. However, I feel like there are a number of issues that would make using them much nicer.
1) Being able to automatically layout a sequence of items vertically the way you can horizontally.
2) Some sort of "edit" mode that allowed drag/drop rearranging of tiles.
3) Adding a row (or a column) shouldn't cause everything else on the page to rearrange based on the numbers. It should add a row or column of buttons to the end. If I spend the time to arrange DS's the way I want, everything shouldn't get thrown awry if I try to grow them.
4) I can't pin it down, but merging custom direct selects from another showfile is... messy and unpredictable. I tried merging a snapshot from a showfile on a client console, and it loading that snapshot oaded the screen layouts without being populated with palettes on the master console (the layout existed fine on the client console). Rerecording the snapshot on the client console and loading the rerecorded snapshot on the master rendered fine. Not sure if it was a merging issue, or a client->master issue, but took some time to work around.
5) I'd love a way to "lock" the custom DS layout once I'm done building it, and clicking empty tiles at that point would function exactly as it does in other types of DS, and not show the "add" dialog. fat fingering the screen and having the popup appear every time I hit a blank tile is frustrating.
6) Can "enter" confirm/close that dialog? rather than having to hit okay.
