Color change effect using only hue

Hello,

I am completely new to lighting for a church. We have 4 moving LEDs and I want to create an effect that will slowly cycle around the color wheel using only Hue. I seem to be unable to turn off the saturation scrolling and the hue only scrolls through a small range.Thank you for your help.

There is no way for a continuous circle that I'm aware of. That sounded like a challenge to me. First set the saturation to full. Create an absolute effect. Put hue in the parameter box on the right…

Press Effect twice, your in effect list now. Type Effect 1 Enter to create a new effect (or any other number that is still empty). You're now asked to choose an effect type, let's take Color. Click on the parameter box (right hand side of CIA) and then select Hue from the collection of parameter names that shows up in the left hand side of the CIA, press Enter.
You have now an effect that affects only Hue. The reason why the effect only covers a small bit of the color circle is because of Scale. It probably says 25. That's the value the effect adds and subtracts from the current level of Hue. Hue can go from 0 to 360. So adding and subtracting 180 is what you need.
Go back to live.
Last but not least: if adding and subtracting 180 should cover a range of 0-360, you need to start at 180. So your effect will work best, if you start the effect when your fixture already has a Hue value of 180.

That worked great! Thanks for the help. A few followup questions:
Is there a way to make the Hue go in an infinate circle instead of 180 degrees and then reversing. The reversing leaves the color at 180 up for longer than the rest.

What is the difference between the cycle time in the Effects Editor and the rate in the Effect Status Display?

How does size in the Effect Status Display affect my hue effect?

There is no way for a continuous circle that I'm aware of.

Rate is a factor, 100 is 100%. Which means your cycle time will be used without a change.

You can use your effect status display to override what the effect actually says without changing the effect. So you can use the same effect in two cues, once show and the second time faster.

That sounded like a challenge to me.

First set the saturation to full.

Create an absolute effect. Put hue in the parameter box on the right.

Create 3 actions. Put hue in the parameter column for each action. Time should be the same for each and dwell should be 0.

Step 1 level: 0

Step 2 level: 120

Step 3 level: 240

And there you have it - a continuous circle. If you want it to go the other direction, make Step 2 level 240 and Step 3 level 120.

Don't forget to turn on Virtual HSB in the system settings, or this isn't going to work. I added another step at 40 for Amber.
