Restore Ion to factory defaults

Is there a means of restoring the Ion's settings entirely  to factory defaults? I actually thought such an option was available in the ECU, however it seems I must have mistaken the Restore System Settings option under Maintenance for that.

  • Your best bet is to contact ETC Technical Support and ask them to guide you through re-imaging your Ion. That will return it to its factory-new state, but it's the kind of thing you'll want to do under their guidance.
  • I don't have any issues with the console. I simply want to restore the software to its factory settings instead of having to delete many individual show files and trying to work out what settings have been altered along with their defaults.

Could someone from ETC possibly PM me about this? I'm assuming there is a utility found within the administrator account which is password-protected (an option found in the Maintenance tab of the ECU) that achieves this.
  • Aaron, this cannot be done via the admin account.

The best way to get the desk back to defaults is via a re-image. It will wipe the hard disk and re-install everything.
As Paul says you will need to call ETC Technical Service to arrange this as you will need a USB stick sent out to you which is setup to do this.

  • Since you are not having trouble a simpler process might be better. Most of the various settings are stored within a show file. A paper record of the preferred 'permanent' settings would allow you to quickly confirm everything is where you want it, whether that's defaults or not.

Settings> Desk has a the ones mostly likely to get touched. In the shell "Maintenance > File Management" can delete old files in bulk. Also "Backp System Settings" will store all the desk settings in a file. A couple of clicks and you're where you need to be. Probably far faster than re-imaging the hard drive.
