sub override

Currently doing cues and want to make a strobe sub that when either raised or bumped will override whatever is currently the look and only strobe in white that which I record. Scratching my head on it. Currently it strobes the fixtures but keeps their current color state and keeps pars and other fixtures on that aren't able to strobe. I want it to go black except that which is strobing.

  • I'm not sure if this is in 2.5.2 or added in 2.6 which is currently in beta. But there's a button state called Solo. This would work for the button but not the fader.

What should work in 2.5.2 is set all your other channels to 0 in the sub as this force them to this level. It also sounds like the strobe aren't recorded in white just double check this.

Also setting the sub to a higher priority (5 will work) will give you extra security.

  • Hey Nick,

They actually were all recorded in white but ran as the current color they were running. I have changed the Sub to Solo and have been able to get them all to strobe white. I also changed the sub to manual so it does not lock. However my movers still change focus positions to where the strobes were recorded and the additional fixtures that weren't recorded; led pars that don't strobe, still remain lit. I can't figure out the sequence of how to record only certain parameters and/or edit in blind to remove those that I don't want to be affected; ie: focus.
I thought that when only the Color parameter, for example was recorded then only Color would change in a currently running state. I just can't figure out how to ONLY record those parameters; strobe, intensity and color so ONLY those parameters change when the sub is applied.
When I open the Displays window and try selecting a parameter it gives a red error on the string. So I know I am doing that wrong.
  • There are plenty ways of record just a few parameters...

first would be to select the parameters in the open CIA while saving. They are posted to your comandline.

Second may be using e.g. [shift]+[Color] . This also is posting your parameters to the comandline.

third may be editing the Sub. Use the mouse and select all unwanted parameters in the Sub-Blind-Mode and set [@][Enter] for them. This will set them to no level in this Sub. But be careful, in this case backgroundinformation can be come in.
e.g. if you undo the Color, and you set up color red, the fixture is still in red.
you can select the wanted paramaters while recoring as well directly on the fixtures.

You can Set filters for recording (But on ION i Don't know where the Filter-button is... never used it, sorry)

Have also a look at the Videotutorials:
04.7 Syntax, Command Line Filtering :

    07.1 Filters

  • writing half alseep isn't this much produktiv :P
For filters on ION(and all the others on EOS-Family) see the manual here:

  • Thank you for this great and complex information as well as the tutorials and manual pages. I did try clicking on specifics in the CIA when I was recording the sub but kept getting errors. I'm sure it had to do with the order I was doing it. I will try the Filters or Shift next. I also wonder where strobe fits in. I'm guessing Beam but wonder if that is always the case in every led fixture.
  • where the strob is locketed is a fixture-issue. Most likely it is in Beam. but i think i have seen it once in a other place. But would't put my hands in fire for that.

    What is your error message?
keep in mind that Dimmers don't have [Color] and [Beam]. So don't mix this up in your selection. But use [+] a lot ; )
