Updating Software

Question

Hi There, 
 I am normally a GrandMA2 gal but I am working with an ETC Ion and a ETC EOS at a theater that has not updated their consoles since they purchased them. I want to update the software for them but am unclear if the consoles need to step through every update between their software now to the newest one or if the consoles can just jump to the newest software and be okay. They have had their consoles: EOS since 2011 and the ION is in software version 7.0.0.9.0.1 Thanks for your help.

You can go directly to the most recent update -- though the Ion isn't actually running 7.0.0.9.0.1 (that's our Embedded OS version number, but not actually the Eos software - it can be confusing!). 
 
To check the version it's running at the moment, launch the software (click Primary) and in the app, press About with a clear command line. The version will be displayed next to the Ion or Eos logo. 
 
Check out the release notes for installation instructions, changes, and other relevant information about the release.

In the release notes that Hans mentioned, it may mention needing to order keycaps from ETC. I am not an EOS expert, but be aware of this. 
Also, leave yourself plenty of time to do the updates. I would also recommend calling Tech Support since you and no one at the theatre has experience doing software updates.

for an Ion the last keycap delivery came with 1.9.something. if you're at 2.x you should be safe. 
the update process itself it straight forward, but there has been quite some change, depending how many years of new functions you do at once. 
so the two most important things were already mentioned: ETC's hotline and all the release notes of all versions in between. or download the addendum for the operations manual. it's called Manual Supplement. it explains all the changes for all versions since 2.0
