ION and Capture Set up

Hi, I am dipping my toe into the world of visualisation using capture. Having spent a few hours learning the software, I would now like to use my etc ION to control the visualizer. I am not very network savvy at all, so if anyone has an idiots guide or video to connecting the pair of them, or can recommend some, I would be very grateful.

  • its pretty simple, there are a couple of different ways, but I like using Static IPs. Set the IP ranges and Subnet masks so they can talk and you are good to go.

In the shell of the Ion you set the IP address in the shell under the networks tab.

If your Ion is already setup to do Network I wouldn't mess with it at all just take down the info. If your Ion isn't set up for network I would recommend.

    IP: 10.101.92.101
    Subnet: 255.255.0.0
    Gateway: 10.101.1.1

The viz depends on what you are using, its in different places in WinXP, Win10 and Mac. You can look on the Google for how to set IP addresses everything should be static.

On your computer set the IP for something different than the above but in the same range. Look at the subnet mask any octet with a 255 number has to match. In the above example, the first two octets have to match to be in the same range. (anything that starts in 10.101.x.x will be seen by the Ion)

If you use the above IP Scheme, I would set the Viz computer to:

    IP 10.101.101.101
    Subnet 255.255.0.0
    Gateway: 10.101.1.1

If your Ion is already networked take a look at the current address and find a unique IP that fits in the range. In most cases you can take the Ion IP and just add one to the last Octet and be fine.

You can plug the ethernet directly from the Ion to the Viz computer,. no need for a switch or any additional network hardware. You may need to restart the Ion and Viz computer to get them talking properly.
