How to hook up a ADJ Focus Three Z with out DMX available.

Hello,

At my workplace I have a Ion Console running Version 1.9 (I know its way out of date). All of our Source fours and Pars run perfectly fine. Ion to the senor racks/dimmer racks is done by Ethernet. On the fly lines there is no connection for DMX just 1 ETCnet port. There is a Stage right and Stage left 2 port Gateway's for ACN and Net3. Is there a way to run DMX intelligent lights through the system?

  • If I understand correctly, your gateways are ideally suited (and probably intended) for running any DMX equipment you want. It's quite possible that they are programmed to output universes other than #1. ETC gateways have a screen that should show the universe number and an arrow for each port. The arrow pointing to the number means it's an input port, the arrow pointing away means it's an output port.

The net ports in the air would be used for portable (touring) gateways. There are a few fixtures starting to be made with direct network inputs, but they are still pretty rare. So if you buy/rent/find some gateways you can program them to almost any universe output and easily run a fully hybrid rig.

The next question would be whether you have good non-dim power for LEDs or movers. Relays are the best option, but that's really another discussion.
