Allfade meaning

Hello to everyone. I'm sorry but seems my English too poor to understend the meaning of the ALLFADe function

The manuas says:

AllFade

Any cue can have an allfade flag applied. An allfade sends the intensity for all channels not included in the cue to zero. Submasters, any captured channels and the contribution from any faders that are set to independent are unaffected, unless the cue executing the allfade is also set to independent. An allfade flag “*” is identified in the playback status display for the specified cue.

• <Cue> [5] [Allfade] [Enter] - sends intensity for all channels not included in the allfade cue to zero.

The allfade instruction is useful as a quick cleanup, to get back to a known state on stage, without having to worry about what channels need to be set to zero."

I've recorded a cue and set the allfade flag as writen in the manual, but i dont understend what to do next and how to use it.

uhm, now if you press go, everything that is not part of your cue should move to 0. is this not what you're seeing?

I've 3 cues. The number 2 is set as allfade.
I've added few channels as manual and then pressed Go. When I do it, the manual channels stays and the others fade to to next cue.

What do u mean with "everything is not part of the cue"? Manual channels, for example?

cue 1: 1 to 5
cue 2: 19 to 21 (allfade flag)
cue 3: 12

If you still have the manual channels selected when you press [Go], they should not fade, as selected channels with manual values are considered captured.

In Cue 1 set channel 6 to full and press [Shift]+[Clear], then [Go]. Channel 6 should fade to zero, as it is not in Cue 2 and Cue 2 has an [Allfade] flag.

In Cue 2 set channel 6 to full and repeat the process. Channel 6 should stay at full as Cue 3 fades in, as it has no value in Cue 3 and Cue 3 doesn't have an [Allfade] flag.

Thank you! I got it! I understood what was my mistake. I was concentrated on Cue 2 where flag was set. I thought all manual channels set on there would fade to zero after pressing [Go] .
Just to know: so its normal behaviour to set allfade flag on to keep clean all cues. Right?

To be honest I have never used it. If you don't plan on changing a lot during playback you don't really need it. Can't hurt to use it though, especially on blackouts, just to stay safe.

Really depends on what kind of show you are working on. For theatre plays I usually want to keep changes I make during the show, so I just update them.

When improvising live for concerts I usually jump to my cues with [GoToCue], which automatically makes the Cue you jump to behave like an [Allfade], even if it doesn't have the flag. So I don't use it there either.

In summary I wouldn't say it's standard behaviour to set all Cues to [Allfade], though others might disagree. Blackouts make total sense to me, but the rest is up to you and your liking in my opinion.

I mostly do theatre even if i'm trying (hardly) to understend how to do busking music. Seems it's another world full of technics and tricks I still dont know how to manage. I keep reading and listening videos on youtube but the English they use there it's quite too hard for me :-)

By the way, thank you so much for your precious help and for your opinion about allfade. I guess you are right about BlackOuts. It'll make sense to use it there.

I might use allfade on my first cue of the show, maybe where the house lights fade out, just to make sure you don't have any strange leftovers.

For blackouts, don't forget to also use the assert and the block flags!

As far as I remember, when pressing [Go] from Cue Out, the first Cue in the Cuelist behaves like an [Allfade] anyways, just like when triggering via [GoToCue]. The same goes for when you are coming from the last Cue in the list with wrap.

I think the only way you can trigger the first Cue in a list, where it doesn't automatically behave like an [Allfade] is to go back from whatever the next Cue is.
