Connecting Windows 10 to Element for Capture Visualisation

Hi,

I'm quite new to Element and was given a series of tea break tutorials from a friend which includes a load of show files, a Capture Visualiser, and a pdf. I am really struggling to make any connection at all to the desk. I found a home router and have connected this to Element by an ethernet cable, then wirelessly connected my PC to the same router. I have downloaded the ETCnomad software, but I cannot get anything to work. I would like to connect the two to use the visualiser with the tutorial show files, but also to use my PC's display as a monitor. I have tried everything and have been unable to successfully ping either the console or my pc, although I really don't know what I'm doing with this. Any help would be gladly appreciated.

  • its hard to tell what you are actually trying to achieve, however its unlikely anything is going to do much until ping shows things can talk to each other. So you'd need to fix that first, which is an IT issue not a a lighting one.

I'll try to give you a few hints.

The router probably has several ethernet sockets, one which might be marked WAN - if so dont plug anything into that, just use the other sockets.

After doing that if you switch off the equipment apart from the router and then switch if on again, what IP addresses does it give you on each bit of equipment (I cant tell from the description above if you have two computers and the Element or just one, but you say I have been unable to successfully ping either the console or my pc, which implies there is a third device you are trying the ping from)

Chances are they are something like 192.168.0.x if they dont look similar apart from the last bit then you need to find out why.

post them here and we'll see if we can guide you further.

Also from each device try pinging the address of the device with the last bit changed to .1 which is likely to be the router. That may tell us which bit is not setup correctly
