tearing down the Ion

I'm asking this question late since I have to do this tomorrow, but is there anything special I should know when tearing down my Ion board tomorrow? I am going to backup the show file. Is there a way to backup all important info, not just show files? Patches? and so on.

I am also going to take pictures just to make sure I know how to reconnect everything.

What am I missing?

  • The patch lives in the Showfile, so no worries here.
But why would you want to take the board apart?
There is a video on etcs YouTube channel about cleaning the inside etc. it shows very well how to open it correctly.
  • I'm sorry for the confusion. I should have said moving instead of tearing down. I have to move everything from the FOH so I was looking for any special instructions I should follow.
  • The Ion is basically a computer with a funny keyboard. Prevent dust or moisture exposure, hard drops or vibration, etc. That you even asked about this shows you'll probably be careful enough on general principles. :)

If you have an older version with a standard hard drive make sure you have powered down correctly to 'park' the drive.

If you have physically attached a fader wing don't rely on that joint to support much. The temptation is to grab the sides, but that stresses the joint too much. Lift from the center or use more hands.

This might be a good time to document the desk settings and the system details in the shell. Network settings, protocols used and such. The chances are that most of them are defaults, so doing an electronic version isn't very useful. But noting what they should be (on paper in the back of the manual,) is a great reference for troubleshooting later.
