Colour Chase on RGB fixtures that snaps to new colour.

Question

Hi Brains Trust, 
 I am starting to learn about effects and wish to create an effect using some RGB LED fixtures. 
 I have created 3 groups with the fixtures (with different offsets and directions) 
 I want the fixture to change colours without going to 0 int with a snap and not a fade and some CP for 6 different colours. 
 Where I am getting stuck is should I create a stepbased or an absolute effect. 
 I tried a stepbased and when I loaded the group into the channel it would only do an intensity change. I tried an absolute but the fixtures would only do a quick fade that not a snap. 
 I am sure this can be done but as a beginner I am having a little trouble. 
 Equipment= Nomad on Win10 OscRFR on ipad gadget output for DMX and some generic IRGB fixtures.

Probably easiest is just use absolute and put the colour pallete in the value column. 
 
Where you probably went wrong if you didn't set the time column to zero. then as that is the transition time so it would fade rather than snap. 
 
The dwell time is what you will need to set to define the step length
