Newbie trying to control Arkaos via Ion board - need some help.

 Hi,

I run the lights for a theatre company on an Ion board and we recently got a large screen to add to the shows with some video effects. I have been using powerpoint with video files to achieve this and the result isn't great, so we've been looking into Arkaos.

What I want to achieve seems basic to me, but I can't seem to figure it out. The goal is for the computer running Arkaos to integrate with the Ion so that when I hit go on the Ion, a video file will start, continue, change, or end.

Is this possible?

    there are different products by arkaos and maybe not all can be controll by DMX, so make sure you buy the right product. then you patch it in your console, not as Dimmer but as fixture. there are already fixture definitions for MediaMaster Pro and for a version of the VJ product.
    in the end you control arkaos like a moving light, e.g. with encoders. Pan and Tilt could change the position up, down, right and left, intensity is the opacity, color is color and so on.
    if you buy a dmx capable product that doesn't have a fixture definition yet, you can ask ETC to make it for you. you will need the DMX mapping for that product (hopefully supplied by arkaos) and about two weeks.

    Ok, thanks for the reply.

    Another simple question. If I am running MediaMaster Pro on a Win10 PC, what steps should I go about connecting the pc to the Lightboard. From what I've gathered researching it I need some kind of server that can connect dmx to ethernet, or am I off here?

    from what i see on their website mediamaster pro should be able to do artnet, which is essentially dmx through ethernet. so you connect the PC to the Ion by an ethernet cable and make sure that in the Ion shell, Settings, Network, Artnet is activated

    I have done this several times although I used Theater mode of Arkaos. In that mode, each 'parameter' is controlled via a simple generic dimmer channel. This does use more 'channels' than the fixture mode. but I have enough to make it work. Nothing fancy.

    Patched channels 401 to 500 as generic dimmers in the ION, then in Arkaos under show settings DMX start 401.
    Ion second NIC port output set to Art-Net sub 0, universe 0, Directed broadcast
    I set the second port to 2.101.100.101 sub 255.0.0.0

    Network cable to PC running Arkaos and
    then set my pc to 2.101.100.1 sub 255.0.0.0
