Nomad Fixture Library update on a PC

Please can someone advise.......I am preprogramming a show on the PC using Nomad.

I need to access the latest fixture library. I have downloaded the zip file.......I can't find any EXE file as one thread suggested, nor is there a "software update" option in the "general" tab on the ECU. Any suggestions?

I wonder if I just rename the existing library folder in the ETC program file on the C drive, and unzip the new in it's place? Just don't want to *** it up.

Once accomplished......does the fixture library on the ION desk need updating as well or is the fixture profile for the fixture I needed from the latest library embedded in the show file?

  • there was a change about two or three years ago, that this is not an exe anymore but you can install the zip itself, to make it work on a Mac as well.
    - so you downloaded a zip, this contains another zip. extract this inside zip to somewhere on your harddisk or on a USB drive.
    - make sure you are on the software version your downloaded fixture library mentions.
    - in your nomad shell, click Settings and make sure on the right hand side you choose General.
    - scroll down until you find Software Update.
    - click that and point it to the zip you extracted

regarding your second question: as soon as you patch a personality from the new library a copy of this new personality is copied to your current showfile, so no, you don't have to install the library on your Ion, but there are advantages to do so: if you don't the console will see that new personality as custom fixture rather than one that came from the library and will not be able to change the fixture if in the future there is an updated version of this fixture.

also, if you want to connect your Nomad to your Ion as a client or backup you need to make sure that they both have the same fixture library.
  • Thanks for the speedy reply. I was running 2.3 software which doesn't have the software upgrade option in the shell screen. So I updated to 2.6 which does have the option, though it installed the latest library as part of the update. Had to install twice as it came up with errors the first time......mad me a bit nervous!
I am still left wondering (just out of curiosity) how you were supposed to update the library if you were running 2.3 software.
  • in those times the fixture library update was an exe file that ran an installer.
