recording sub's and using group sub

the other day one of my techs was recording subs in live for a show.  when I came to run the show I noticed that the subs had been recorded with all channels at a manual or active value, including channels which were at 0%.  when running back the subs this really doesn't matter, but if I then use the top button on the fader to select the sub as a group it selects all channels in the sub, including the ones at 0.

I'm trying to think of a reason why it would be useful to record a submaster with levels at 0.  also, is there a way to record subs so that it ignors zero values?  it would be a great time saver. for the manner in which I normally use subs, it would be nice if the zero valued channels didn't get recorded in.  any thoughts on this?

I'm running an EOS with version 1.4.1

  • Dan,

Perhaps your tech had the zero level channels in a manual state at the time of recording?  If that is true, you could avoid it by [Select Active Record Sub x}.  I too can't realy see a need for zeros in a sub.  I pretty sure you can get rid of them in Blind by selecting the zero chs and pressing @Enter.
