What is the file format of the fixture profiles?

What is the file format of the fixture profiles? I need to edit the Arri Skypanel profile and there is information in it that is not accessible through the console's editing function. I'm assuming it's one of the database formats that I can open in a database application.

Thanks!

  • Hi Mike,

There are two reasons we don't support this:

    1. The data is stored and recalled in a proprietary format.

    2. We don't allow you to edit the fixture library directly via GUI to protect against making irreversible changes that could harm future shows.

If a profile is incorrect, please advise us on how it needs to be corrected. In this specific case, I know that there are some limitations you may be running into that have to be corrected by more than just a fixture library update (see your other thread about gel matches).

  • Thanks for the response, Kirk. I saw that updated Skypanel profiles are in the works but I was hoping to edit the copy of the profile I had made for the job I'm currently on. We can't tell our Director of Photography that we can't do what he knows the fixture is capable of, we just have to find a way to make it happen. I understand wanting to keep the official fixture profiles uneditable. You and whoever makes profiles for you must use a different application to create the profiles. Is it possible in the future to make a version of that available to end users since the console's editing function is somewhat limited? Is there a way to do that without giving it the ability to alter the existing library?
    Thanks again.
  • I understand the frustration and I'm sorry for the extra angst this profile has caused.

While we can't make the internal tools available for a myriad of reasons, I can say that improving the fixture editor is something we are keen to do and is on the list for a future version. (I don't know which version that will make it into since priorities get juggled all of the time. :-) )
