Struggling to connect my Nomad in Mirror mode

I have been struggling for a week trying to connect my Ion to my Nomad. I have read about 50 posts online about how to do this and I still cannot get it to connect. I believe that my issue may have to do with the IP addresses. The picture here shows the settings on my Nomad. It has the IP address Greyed Out and I cannot change it. On the Ion, it reads this:

IP Address: 192.168.1.10
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway: 10.101.100.101

How can I adjust the Nomad IP address to make them talk to each other?

  • Yes at present they are not on the same network which is why they aren't talking.

Probably that's due to the way you've got it cabled together. From the info from the ION it looks like that is plugged into a a router of some sort, maybe even a home wifi router where someone had it setup for wifi remotes, whereas you Nomads machine looks like its on the network on the extrernal side of that router.

The address Nomads is showing you is the address you machine is at on the network and thats coming from the network connection (and even if you changed it, the fact its wrong is telling you they are not on the same network so it still wouldn't work)

How have you got it cabled?

You basically just want the cable that comes out of the ion and the cable that comes out of Nomads plugged into the same switch/hub.

If you can give us the info we should be able to get you going in a few mins, as long as you have the cables and sockets spare to plug in to!!
  • ETCNomad is reading the IP from your OS- so that setting is in Windows or Mac in their settings for the network card- not within the ETCnomad program itself.
The IP you have right now on the ETCnomad would be in the same range as the standard IP for the first network port on an Ion. Your Ion is out of that normal range- which is OK- but means you need to change the IP on the ETCnomad to be within that same range (192.168.x.x).

    Thank you,
  • Unless the ip addresses are not in the same range because you've manual played with them, the fact that they are different ranges tells us they are not plugged into the same network ie there is a router between them. You need to get them onto the same network segment i.e. Plugged into the same switch/hub. If you do that the addresses should sort themselves out and the two will talk.

Tell us how they are plugged together and we can advise, otherwise we are guessing and you are ploughing through another 50 online posts hopping to get lucky by trial and error.

Actually looking at the address of the Ion I think someone has been playing with the address as it's subnet mask and default gateway is not consistent with its up address. If you change it to 10.101.1.10 it might just work

One thing you should make sure works before even trying to get nomads to see it is just from the command promt on the machine nomads is on can you do ping and the address of the ion. Eg ping 10.101.1.10
