ETC Nomad software + dongle + luminex artnet node

Hi there ,

I downloaded Etc Nomad software and using with my dongle , but I cannot get the welcome screen with primary button ,  it seems only offline editor and i can't make everything's online even I setup the IP address under the same  artnet protocol range on my network card and luminex unit .instead of sACN.

But I can see my network card is stay online inside setting " Network " , so am I download the wrong version of Etc software ? Or I did some wrong setting on the sub-net or gateway ?

Thank so much & Cheers !

  • Is that a licence key "dongle" or the dmx output one?

The DMX output thing is not a licence key its just a usb to dmx output convertor, you need the liccence key as well.

Having said that if you put it in offline with viz you will get artnet output if configured, its just it will do something nasty (like flash all the lights) occasionally to stop you running your show for real without buying the licence.
  • Hi Mike

Thank you so much for the replied , I got licensed dongle .
The problem is solved I get the primary button and it is online right now , but I got confused on IP setting on my laptop network card and 2 artnet nodes with Factory preset IP artnet range 2.x.x.x / sub 255.0.0.0 .

All the things connected with a switch , so I tried setting my network card with same artnet range and same sub , but I'm not sure is it the problem from the "setting " inside EOS about artnet primary broadcast or secondary , seems they have different sub need to change...

And last question , how to setting the dmx universe go to the port ? Likes I had 10 universes , and two artnet nodes with 8 universe each , so total I had 16 artnet port ,how to patch the dmx universe 9 go to another art node port 1? And how to check the EOS is connected with my twos artnet node with correct IP addresss ? From ping function inside network setting or diagnostic screen it will showing ?

Thanks a lot Mike , appreciate
  • I'm not totally sure I know what you are asking, so I'll give you some pointers.

If you want Nomads to be able to talk to the artnet devices, then you will need to set the network port on the pc or mac that you are using to have the same network number and subnet so if you have the artnet device on say 2.0.1.1 subnet 255.0.0.0 then you would want the pc/mac network address set to something 2.x.x.x subnet 255.0.0.0

You should also make sure that your wifi is turned off and you've only got the one active network card (ie the one from the pc/mac to the artnet device), otherwise it gets harder to setup correctly.

You should also try to keep it simple and only have the one artnet device connected and you should be able to do that directly without a switch or hub (that just removes another thing that might be done wrong).

Once you've got it basically working then you can put the hub/switch in the circuit and connect the other artnet device.

If you know the factory set ip address of you artnet device then at this stage you should be able to ping it, if you cant then your unlikely to suceed in connecting nomads to it. Ofthen there is configuartion software that comes with the artnet device and if so it can often sort out the ip addresses for you. eg for the artnet device I use dmxking, when you fire up its config program it scans the network to find the device on the directly connected wire and tells you if its not on the same network and do you want to fix the problem or manually set its address.

In mapping the universes to the artnet device ports, that would normally be something the devices config utility lets you set. Basically Nomads will be broadcasting on the wire the data for all universes and the artnet device is configured to take a particular universe and output that as DMX.

(In simple terms artnet is basically just sending a packet on the ethernet containing the universe number and then the 512 byte DMX frame and the device sees the universe it been told to output and just outputs the DMX data on its XLR connector).

There is a setting in nomads where you can in effect add an offest into a universe (confusingly in artnet speak called a sub-net ) but you almost certainly dont want to do this as it just makes it more complicated to understand what's going on.

    Hope that helps
  • Looking at the manual online for your luninex device you configure it using normal web browser connecting to its IP address - you can just set the universe numbers for each DMX port - looks like you also have to say whether they are artnet or scn
