Potential Bug - Pan/tilt encoders not changing values on 8bit profiles

In my current show one fixture type does not respond to turning the encoders for Pan and Tilt.  The outline box flashes yellow as the encoder is turned but the value is not changed.   The encoders DO change values for other parameters (eg Colour) Other fixture type units respond to turning the pan and tilt encoders.

The problem seems to be restricted to the profile Showtec's "Infinity iW 1915 14ch"  This mode has pan and tilt as 8bit parameters.

I made a custom profile for 16ch mode for this fixture type with pan and tilt as 16 bit parameters.  Using this profile the encoders change the values for pan and tilt.

Board is Ion XE20  running version 2.6.2

Fixture Library 2.6.2.9.0.5

  • I took a look at this on an Ion XE 20 running 2.6.2 and 2.6.3 and wasn't able to reproduce the issue with the same fixture type. When I move the encoder, I always saw pan/tilt respond correctly. Does it happen for you from a new showfile?
  • We had another look at this today - a few new things stood out to us.

    1) We have a known bug in 2.6.2 where the encoder speed is 1/3 slower than Ion. We will be addressing this in 2.7. In the meantime, in Setup -> Desk Settings -> Facepanel you can change the X per revolution settings to make them faster. (In 2.7, you will want to restore these to the defaults.)

    2) We do otherwise see some odd behavior with this fixture as it differs from other 8-bit pan/tilt parameters. (The best we could describe was intermittent steppy movements, especially when the encoder is slowly moved.) In our testing, we still didn't see the values get stuck. We did see that pressing and holding Shift allowed for faster movement, which also seemed off but may be a viable workaround for you if it's the same issue.
