Hue Sat translation

I'm working on "translating" a show file from one venue to another and would like to preserve the color palette programming and move it to some new devices.  So for instance, in the original show file we used Wybron Cygnus LED Pars and we will now be using Mac Auras in the same locations.  My thought was that I could "toggle" the color palettes to hue/sat values (instead of RGBW values) and copy those to the new fixture within each color palette.  Does that seem like the way to go to preserve color info from original show file?

  • No. First of all, Mac Auras will accept RGBW values.
Second of all, when copying a color palette from one type of fixture to another, Eos will automatically try to make them the same color, regardless of the color mixing method.

This isn't always a good thing - it can mess up your values when copying between two different fixtures that use the same parameters. For this reason, I use the "Generic Manufacturer" profiles whenever possible.
  • both your fixtures use the same color mixing method, so you don't need to worry. (and actually even if going from RGB to CMY it would "just work". it will not be perfect, because there are too many unknown variables, but it will get you close.

John: while copying colors you can add the softkey DMX to circumvent Eos' color translation algorithm.
