Groups, Labels

Hello,

I have few questions about Groups and Labels:

1.
Is it possible to copy or Move group e.g. from number 1 to 5 or I should record group 1 under group 5. Both are easy and quick but there is a Label. Entering Label again and again is the most time consuming and boring thing. Is it possible to Copy or Move label or keep it somehow to not write everything again and again. I will give an example. I have a club and recorded 10 groups. Then after some time I can see it will be useful to change groups numbers and add some in the middle. Is it possible somehow to not do everything from the beginning?

2.
Is it possible to edit Label. E.g. I wrote the Label ‘Stage Left Column'. Lets say I did a mistake in ‘Column’ word. Can I edit the mistake or I need to write the Label once again – 17 characters!
Second example. I have 12 Columns on stage and would like to add Labels for groups, subs, presets, … Labels will be ‘Column 1’, ‘Column 2’, ‘Column 3’, …,’Column 12’. Can I copy Labels to duplicate them into 12 groups, and then record appropriate channels into these groups? Maybe it is possible to write a Macro to perform repeatable operations?

Thanks a lot,

Adam

  • Adam,

Yes it's possible, but seems that moving groups does not work in exactly the same way as Presets and Palettes. These can be done in Live, but to move groups you need to go into the Group Record Target List. Double hit [Group]. Then [Group] [x] {MoveTo} (softkey) [Group] [y]. The Label will go with your group. I didn't try copying, but I don't see why [Group] [x] [copyto] [Group] [y] shouldn't work also.

I don't believe you can edit labels without re-typing the whole thing, but I absolutely agree that this would be a good feature!

  • 1) [Group 1 CopyTo Group 2] from the grouplist display will also copy the label. In your case, I think you want to use [MoveTo] though.

From Live, some of the group operations work differently than in the group list because [Group] is used to select channels. So if you want to copy the Group rather than copy the channels that the group selects, you must do it in the group list display.

    2) In 1.5.0, when you press [Label], the current label will be posted to the command line, then you can either add to that label or press clear to backspace through the label.

I use this feature a lot.  Having a mindset from previous consoles, I still create my groups in a roughly numerical order (remember when you actually had to press the Group key and  a number?)  Now, when I get in front of a fifty cell Direct Select Module, I find myself rearranging the Groups more spacially than by numbers.  What makes this especially cool is that once you're in the Group screen, you don't need to enter any numbers- Just press the existing Group DS, [Move to] then the DS cell you want it to go to.

I have often wished to be able to simply edit a label, hurray.  Will I also be able to replace an existing label without clearing (or Undo-ing) out the command line?  Perhaps, Label Label?
