What is the difference between 0, out and full, 100?

I noticed that sometimes before reaching FL the console briefly showes 100. There is also the [Out]-button which seems to do something different than 0. Can someone explain the differences?

  • Seeing 100 but only briefly is because of rounding. DMX has 256 steps (0-255), percent as used for intensity has 100 steps. So when going increasing the intensity by 1 point, DMX will change two or three times in between. Full is only displayed for a true 255; 254 and maybe 253 get rounded to 100.

Out looks like it is a shortcut for At 0 Enter. For intensity this is almost always true. But actually Out means Home. If you change the home value of a channel's intensity you will see that Out makes it go to the home value rather than 0. This is also true for subs. Sub 1 Out Enter doesn't necessarily make it go to 0. The home position of an inhibitive sub is at 100
