Element Upgrade from Express 48/96 and having Playbacks remote in the TV Studio

Hi,

I have a client that I'm upgrading from a Express 48/96 to a New Element Console. They have an existing RFU that is no longer useful and want to run Playback Cues when in late night mode. They have one camera person operating the studio and running the cues. What is common now to use? I heard X Keys from PI Industries not sure on model being used  but open to options from ETC or there manufactures.

  • The direct replacement for an RFU is the phone/tablet app. Naturally that requires a network and wifi but it could be as simple as a home wifi router plugged into the console. There are OSC based apps as well so you aren't limited to the ETC ones. The fees for the official apps go to a stagehand charity so you can feel good about spending the money.

    Another option would be hard-wired Go & Back switches. A little known function (of the Express too) is the switch input connections on the back of the board. They can be mapped to some functions or to a macro that could be almost anything. Check the manual for details. In this wireless world there is some comfort in the security and reliability of copper connections.
