Free Visualiser ?

Any news on when will we get a free visualiser like the capture one used on the Avolites consoles? with the role out of 2.6.4 I can not be alone on thinking where is the Visualiser?

It seams like all the other major lighting companies AVOlites,GrandMA and Chamsys have given there loyal customers a some what decent visualiser, and yet you seem to be seriously lagging behind! .... Why is this?

With development of the newer hardware, the advancement of the industry and you purchase of High End Systems.... Isn't this much to ask for your loyal customers...?

  • Capture is by CaptureSweden and is independent from any console company (AFAIK)
You can use their demo or student versions with any console and most offline versions.
  • The problem with the student version is its limitation of available fixtures. I would be nice to be able to access the full fixture library but have a restriction of one universe or something like that. Nothing ETC can do as you say it is a 3rd party.
  • Thanks guys for your comments but this still doesn't answer the question...I have the capture visualizer that I use for pre-programming so for me this is not an issue...but I would like to know why they are so behind in this area compared to the other main contenders...not having to carry two computers if I want to use nomad and a visualizer would be so much easier don't you think...

  • I use the visuliser and nomad on one computer with a second screen. No need for 2 computers.
  • Every company makes decisions about what to work on in their code. There are a couple who have visualizers built in and that is a choice. ETC has not spent the time on this but has brought a ton of other features into their software. These are choices. Expecting every manufacturer to do the same thing just makes them all look the same. They are not behind. They have simply chosen to not do this. Visualizers are nice but you have to spend the time to set them up properly for them to be useful. I have programmed on consoles that have them and generally with the productions I do there is no time to set up the visualizer thus it is of no value to me. If the built in visualizer is mandatory for your workflow maybe you should work on a console that has it.
  • Couldn't say for sure why ETC has neglected a proprietary built in visualizer. Only thing I could guess is that: A. It's in the works, albeit slowly (i.e. lower priority,) B. They have some sort of logistical or direction reason for not building one.

Truth be told, ETC has been working very hard to change their console line, particularly the Eos family of software from being a very detailed cue based theatre console to a set of consoles that can be proficiently adapted to not just straightforward theatrical shows but also on the go concert like shows. Prior to the recent major 2.x updates, their Cobalt/Congo line of consoles worked more fluently for busking (in my opinion.)

Several years ago I would have scoffed at the idea of using an Eos console in place of a GrandMA, Hog, Avolites, etc for busking live entertainment. Now I am more than happy to use Eos for just that.
