Warning on Mac Offline Editor installer v.1.4.2

I have contacted tech support and hopefully through them, the development team, but I wanted to give a heads up.  I just installed the Mac Offline Editor v. 1.4.2 and it changed the permissions of /Applications and /Library/Application Support/ to "No Access" to anyone but root and made me unable to launch any applications at all.  I repaired it myself after an hour and will be providing Console logs to the devs if they want them.  I'm running 10.5.5 on a MacBook.

  • In case anyone else runs into this problem and is looking to fix permissions, the best way is to open Disk Utility, select your hard drive, and click the Repair Permissions button in the First Aid tab.  This will fix the permissions on your entire drive, and will, in fact, fix many unusual Mac software troubles.

In the event that you can't open any apps as reported, you'd want to boot to an OS X install CD/DVD and launch Disk Utility from the menu bar.

• Thanks Matt, although when I was working out how to fix my Mac, I tried the Repair Permissions button first, and it didn't fix it. I eventually sorted it by simply looking at the sharing options in the Get Info box for the Applications folder, and giving permission back to other users. Does this fix it or am I still likely to have issues? It all seems fine so far...
