Installing Custom Software (hacking basically)

Edit:

I erased my entire post from earlier after I got into Windows mode and realized that with what can be done, ETC wouldn't be too happy with me posting it online. All I will say now is this- it is possible to get into your ion or eos console under a normal windows workstation mode. That's all I'm going to say for fear of ETC not being happy with me. But you can't blame them, they make some GREAT stuff.

  • It's true.  The are running embedded XP.  This isn't really something that's hidden from the public.  However, my only question to you is why would you want to do this?    You would take a pretty expensive piece of equipment (especially in the case of the EOS) and render the warranty invalid and possibly kill the desk.  What would the point be?

  • I know that it's not hidden from the public, but getting into the windows desktop was the trick. Yes, you are risking some things, but if you were able to reinstall some windows services, such as shutdown, then that would be pretty handy. Even then, you can't really wreck it because you always have the option to re-image your desk.
  • While it is true you could re-image the desk, I wouldn't want to risk it.  There is a reason why ETC has chosen to make things the way they are with regards to each console.  Doing something along those lines might cause conflicts with other drivers and what not on the desk.  It's just not something that I would recommend is all
