Adam, this is related to your other post, I think. That post explains how to store on the intensity parameters to submasters. Once you have that sub stored as desired, the fader should be set to "Proportional" (this is the default, so if you haven't changed it, you are good). You can then assign timing to your bump button. There are three timing values - fade up / dwell / fade out. So, let's say you want to fade the intensity up in 1 second, have it hold for 3 minutes and then bump out, you could say: [Sub] [n] [Time] [1] [Time] [3] [0] [0] [Time] [0] [Enter]
You have three options for the "dwell" time (that's the second time that is entered). By default, the time value is "Manual" ... this enables the button to be a maintained flash key. You can enter a time, as described above. You can also enter "hold". This is a softkey that will appear when you are in submaster editing mode. If you enter "Hold" . the look will fade up in your up time and stay there until you press the bump button again - at which point it will fade out in the down time.
