led pixel mapping with ETC Ion?

I am a senior undergraduate theatrical lighting design student. I am currently working on my senior capstone lighting design and was just given a grant to have a higher budget for lighting equipment. I would like to use our ETC Ion’s pixel mapping capabilities to control LED strip lights.

I have never done this before and I was wondering if there was certain equipment and LED strip lights that anyone has experience with and could recommend?

Thanks so much!

  • Depends on what kind of LED strip lights you are talking about. Something like the ColorBlaze 72 or Color Force 72? Or are you looking at LED Pixel tape? If you are looking to rent some gear for the show I would check with your local vendors and see what prices they have for the different units. Part of this depends on whether you are going to use the strips to light something or are going to point them at the audience and what you want them to look like if you point them at the audience. The ColorBlaze units have individual colored LED's which leads to a party of leds if they are pointed at audience. GLP X-4 bars and Color Force II units have LED engines that output unified color which looks better if you are viewing the face of them.
