* symbol in the Mark field-what does it mean?

OK, so now I know it means the console has automatically put a Mark in for me, but it still makes no sense as I am specifying the Cue I'd like the light to mark in, and they are not active in the cue range, so why, why, why?

Graham, there are only two circumstances in which you should see an "*" in the marks flag field - and you will only see this when you are using referenced marks.   But first, here's what it means.    We had a lot of requests for the desk to protect you from a live move in the event your mark got pooched.   So, the "*" represents an automark (again, only when using referenced marks).  

So, basically, if you mark a light and later something happens to prohibit the mark (maybe you remove the mark flag from the "M" cue, delete the "M" cue, or use the lights in the range where they should be in a marked state), the desk will automatically move the light in the cue immediately preceding the "R" cue.  The "*" indicates "Eos is marking the light to prohibit a live move, but maybe its not exactly what you want, so you should go take a look when you have a chance."  

 You will also see it if you apply a mark flag, don't tell the lights where to mark, and there is no valid "M" cue for them to mark to.  

Does this make sense?  If you are in the cue where the lights go active, apply the mark and tell the lights where to mark, as long as they are inactive in that range, you shouldn't see the "*".  If this still appears problematic, can you drop me your show file?

Hi Anne,

I sent an email to eos@etcconnect this morning with the showfile attached and a bit more detail from the email I sent you last night. I think I am still seeing a problem here as I have completely removed the old mark instruction and done as you say above, but the problem persists.

Eg.

Lights go out in Q1.

They do nothing in Q2

They come on again in Q3. In Q3 they have an instruction to mark in Q1 (a loud point in the show). However an asterix appears on Q2, and this is where the lights mark.

Surely they can mark after they have reached Zero in Q1? This is normal Mark behaviour as I know it and have used it previously. I don't believe we have deleted any Mark instuctions, or done anything which should cause the desk to insert an Auto Mark.
