What are the 2 faders above the GO/STOP/PAUSE buttons for? - Element 40 - Question

Ok so we are doing a show for the first time with our Element 40 and we have no idea what the  2 faders above the GO/STOP/PAUSE buttons.

Parents
  • They are the 'cross faders' and in a fully programmed show are not needed. Leave them up (away from the GO) and the system will work according to the programmed cue times. If they are not up, then they take control.

They control the rate of the fade from one cue to another. One is the lights going to lower level, the other is the lights getting  brighter. Their purpose is to allow for manual control over the change to a new cue.

I strongly recommend you get the "tea break tutorials" as they are the fastest and simplest way to get started on the console. It comes with show files for each chapter, or you can just use your own rig. But the biggest reason I like them is that each chapter covers a topic in a very short time, a tea or coffee break. Learn about patching, cues, or submasters without getting lost in more complex topics. Come back later and do something else when you need it.

  • If you never use them (and so dont even notice them) and someone puts them to the bottom position just before the show, they can give you a heart attack, you hit go on curtain up and everything remains dark, you frantically hit goto cue 1 and it works, you hit go again and nothing happens. Been there ....
