A few nitpicky notes

Howdy,

Here's a list of a few minor glitches and irks I've been collecting in no particular order:

1. The other day I used Query to grab about 90% of 350 channels.  It made for a very long command line.  The majority of which scrolled out of sight to the left as expected, but the last handful of characters, including the @ and level were cut off on the right end.  Command lines of this length are probably rare but I would like to the end of the command to remain visible..

2. In Patch, when I want to move consecutive channels to another positon where the new first is within the range of the original group. it doesn't work like it should.  i.e. 300 thru 304 [Move To] 301 messes things up.  The workaround is 300 thru 304 [Move To] 601, THEN 601 thru 605 [Move To] 301.

3.  After my show is entirely patched, I like to delete the unpatched channels.  It allows me to visually orient Groups and Systems in the Tombstone view without using Flexi.  When I do this, I'm usually scrolling through the patch deleting unpatched groupings as I run across them.  I'll spot some and go: Delete Ch 15 thru 17 Enter.  Are You Sure? Enter.  Now when I find the next grouping, I try: Delete Ch 23 thru 27.  But the first command hasn't cleared from the line so I have to manually clear it out first.  I think most executed commands dissapear from the line once another character is typed.  I've since found that the consecutive commands work if I go: ch X thru Y Delete, but I think it should work either way.

4.  Loading cues seem a little tedious to me.  Cue X Enter Load Go. And the Load key is that funny unlabeled secret key that you wouldn't know about until you call Tech support (it was probably my fitfh call or so...)  People keep asking me, "Why can't you just put Cue X Go?"  I'm not like that, but is the Enter button really neccessary?  And I'm still only using one cue list, surely this is compounded with multi lists?

5.  Tell me again how I 'cut' to cues on the Ion.  On the Eos, you hold the Timing Disable key and press Go.  On the Ion that is a soft key so it doesn't work like that.  Should I just slap the faders down and up like on the old ETC boards?

6. On the Eos, the mechanical faders (as Subs) are great for several reasons, but I really want to be able to go to other specific Pages with one finger.  The Fader Page/number key combo doesn't always take unless you are seriously deliberate in the action.  I think Fader Pages could be a Direct Select module, or at least fix it so I can record them in a Macro.

 7. I wish there were a way to unpark just all of the addresses en masse.  I keep certain channels parked all of the time.  Often I'll have several crew folks asking me to Park several or more addresses while I'm running a focus or cueing.  When they are done, I think I should be able to say: Park Park, Address Park Enter.  By the way, I like the new unpark confirm feature.

8. OK, This has been driving me batty for a year.  I patch the majority of my shows by Address with someone reading numbers off the I-Schedules.  When we get warmed up, we can go pretty fast.  It seems that the most common time I catch myself fat-fingering is right after the @. i.e. 21 @ 237 becomes 21 @ 32 oops.  Now, still in high gear, I'll tap Clear twice and retype 237, but when I hit Enter I get the error buzzer because 21237 is out of the show's range of channels.  What happens is that when you clear a single character after the @, the @ is also cleared.  It really puts a hiccup in the pace of the process, and I can't think of why this would be by design.  If there is a legitimate reason for this, I'll try to let it go, but if not, would you please correct it?

Let me stress that 99% of my time on these consoles are generally pleasant.  I'm having a great time learning them and I'm one of their biggest advocates when I'm asked for my opinion.  Thanks for everybody's input and ETC's good work and service.

  • I was able to program fader page changes into macros just last week on the EOS 1.4.2.  when programming the macro I used the fader page button along with the number of the page on the keypad rather than using the wheel.  it worked great and I had the advantage of being able to label the macro something other than "page1" to more easily find the faders I needed.  although in order to label the macro I had to type in the word "macro" since the macro button doesn't enter data into the command line.
  • You can also label macros by going into the macro edit page by pushing MACRO LABEL
