Inhibitive sub and NPs

I have a hazer set up as a fixture, with attributes for fan and haze flow -- these appear in the beam category.  I wanted to set up an inhibitive sub to master out the hazer for breaks, notes sessions, etc.  The inhibitive sub only seems to work for the intensity parameters, which had no effect on the hazer.  Is there a way to set up the sub so it masters the hazer?

  • Josh, that's a bit of a problem, since FCB parameters aren't Mastered in the same way as intensity parameters.  At the moment, the best option is to patch those parameters as intensities.  We will look for ways to do this going forward, but putting FCB params on Inhibitive subs will probably be a special case.

    Hey Josh,

    My suggestion would be to write a "beam" palette in the home position (off) and then write a macro that grabs the hazer channel and moves it to beam palette home. That’s how I did it and it worked like a charm. You could also write the same combo for turning the hazer on for pre-show. One button and saves an ever precious fader.

    OK, I understand the Beam palette at Home, and a macro.  Can I put a macro on a submaster, so when I run the fader up, or press the bump button, the macro triggers?

    Or is the solution to write a new cue list, with 1 cue linking the macro.  Hitting the bump/go button runs the cue, activates the macro, and sends the hazer to 0.

     My goal is to be able to have the hazers recorded in cues, and let the show run.  If the haze becomes too much, I would like to be able to kill the hazer by an inhibitive sub, and not affect the cue setting.

    Yes / no / maybe so?

    I just patch these devices as descrete channels and am done with it. I can inhibit at will.

    I generally set up my hazer with the pump as the intensity and the fan as a parameter.  That way, the inhibit will work on the pump, therefore reducing the output of the hazer and achieving what you are describing

    Thanks Brent and Tim (who suggested the same (or nearly)).  So if I'm to understand you both, you don't patch the hazer as a "HAZER", just as a dimmer, with the fan also a dimmer (Tim) at the next sequencial DMX value.  That way they would be operated as Intensities, and able to be inhibited.

    ETC: what I would love is the ability to lable channels that appear on the summary (? tombstone) screen.  I think you've previously said it's coming.  I don't think that I would want to text label every channel, but just a few special ones (like HAZER).

    What I do to get around this is to create a Intensity Palette for the channels, label the palette "CONDUCTOR", and the 4 channels pointing at the conductor are labelled that way.  I realize this doesn't work if you want multiple levels pointing at the same object, but it works fine for me in a concert hall.
