Universal Color Pallettes

At the moment, I am playing with six channels of LED fixtures.  What is the simplest and most elegant way to create create Color Pallettes that could be used in the future no matter where they are then patched?  I have a working method but it is convoluted.

I want to merge color and beam palettes every show, I don't use Fan every show. Just sayin ;)

Jason, Tell me if you at least have a simpler method than this.

On a Dark day and with an empty show, I took a single scroller, patched it for real, but then patched imaginary scrollers to all channels up to 500 or so.  Then, controlling all 500 channels I went through all the frames and recorded them as Color Palettes.  Now, whenever I have a show with scrollers, as long as they are patched first and in channels under 500, I can Import just those CPs and they work fine unless you change or add to the patch after the import.

I'm looking to do this with my Cybers and LEDs and am wondering if there is a more conventional way.

  • No, not an easier way. I number my LEDs in the same range for every show, so those are the only ones that I don't have to re merge into the imported palettes. The rest I have to recreate, I guess it's good that at least the labels are in there. :-) Because of surfing between several different consoles and having to "catch up" palettes because of new versions or whatever, I have an excel file already with all my color values so I just offline program them in, but still, would like to have my globals back.
  • Just a thought... could you make a blank show with dummy chans in a high range.  Lets say, ch 1001 = int chan + scr.  Ch 1002 = cyber, ch 1003 = LED

Make all the colour pallets you need for these fixtures.  Next time a show comes around that needs these fixtures, import them into the show along with the required pallets.  Patch your show as required.  Lets say you then have ch 1 > 10 as LED.  Ch 21 > 33 as Scrollers, Ch 11 > 16 as cybers.

Once the patch and pallets are in, from the blind CP display: [CP 1 > 1000 enter] [1001 copy to 21 > 33 enter] [1002 copy to 11 > 16 enter] [1003 copy to 1 > 10 enter]

Would that achieve what you are trying to do?

    Cheers

  • Brent,

yes, I will try that.  I had suspected there was at least another way to do this.  These designer's all come in their own idea of where to put their channels and you just can't do anything with em.

It's got to be less work than dialing everything in again, since you can do it Blind, or without the fixtures even in the air yet.

  • Once the info is in the desk, it actually doesn't take very long at all to do the copy from the dummy chans to the chans in the rig... Maybe 1 minute tops

Hope it all works out for you
