Ion- backup switching & some comments

Hi-

I'm currently setting up my first Ion with a Primary & a Backup console, in a TV studio. I've played with primary/backup on Eos, but not enough to know if it's different or not.

At any rate, what's the proceedure supposed to be for restoring the normal primary/backup relationship after the backup has assumed control? It appears that both consoles, first the primary, then the backup, need to be restarted in order to reassume control at the primary. This is, at the very least, inelegant. It's also difficult to manage without losing control entirely.

There also should be an indication on the primary that it is no longer in control. Scenario- you've had a loss of network connectivity. Primary console has gone offline, backup (maybe in another room, maybe right next to it) has taken control. In my testing, the primary is not in control but either does not know it or does not report it. In this scenario, the operator won't know that he isn't in control until he actually tries to do something, and discovers it. Again, inelegant.

Also- is there really no way to move screens around on Ion? The arrow keys don't do it as they do on Eos.

Finally, is there no place to see the software version within the program? Do you have to exit Ion and view it on the splash screen, or have I missed it somewhere?

Thanks

  • Rob, the primary/backup logic is exactly the same on Ion as it is on Eos.

Once the primary is back on line, you can restore operation via the network tools in the browser.  We recommend though. when you are running a show, if the backup takes control, that you leave the backup as the master processor for that run.    On Ion, above the command line in the LCD, there is an indication of current operating mode.  The primary processor should show that he's no longer the master processor there.  Haven't looked at this in a while, but will make sure of this.

Ion doesn't have tabs, therefore the screens can't be moved the way they are on Eos.  There is a swap button.... this seems to work pretty well, as the max number of external monitors is 2.

To see the current software version, press about (with no channels selected).

    Hope this helps.
