issuing RS232 commands out of a show control gateway networked to Eos - is this possible?

From what I can see in the documentation, this is not possible.  But I'm asking anyway.

I'd like to be able to issue on and off commands via serial to a video projector.  I picture this as two macros which fire each command - one at the begining of the show, one at the end.  I've read through the Eos manual and I see where the console can react to incoming serial commands, but nothing about issuing strings.  Is this possible?  if not, is it planned?  or is this a can of worms?

  • There's a wonderful little piece of equipment called the Net3 I/O Gateway which will

connect to your Eos via ACN (Ethernet Cable), and this box will send all the RS-232

and contact closure signals you need. ;)

  • yes i realize that - hence the title of the post.

i need to know how to make eos issue an rs232 string to a video projector.  i can not find any reference as to whether this is possible or not in any documentation.  the eos manual does talk about receiving serial strings and responding, but not issuing them...

  • The Eos will not issue an RS232 string.

It will send DMX Value via ACN to the Net3 I/O Gateway which will have been programmed by receiving this certain ACN Value

to trigger the RS232 on its output. The manual which is delivered with this gateway will explain how to program the RS232 ports.

Which Net3 Gateway do you have?

There are 3x different main types Net3 Gateways :

    A. Net3 ACN Gateway - DMX/RDM : which converts ACN to DMX.

    B. Net3 ACN Gateway - I/O : which converts ACN to RS232.

    C. Net3 ACN Gateway - Show Control - which converts ACN to MIDI/SMPTE

You would need the second gateway.

    Does that help?

  • As Dennis mentions currently you can't output RS232(serial) on command from Eos, only input at the moment.

I have done things like this before using a 'Common-Sense' box from Artistic Licence :

It can be programmed to take a DMX input on any channel and use that to output a string to serial. So you would be able to use a single DMX channel to turn your projector on and off.
