New Gio@5 setup this week

We took delivery of our new console this past Friday. Tomorrow and throughout the week I will be setting it up so that on Sunday I can use it. I am coming from an Ion classic. I have done a backup of desk settings and show files from the Ion.

My question is, are there any tips or advice anyone has to share? I know I will not get absolutely everything set up prior to Sunday. I don't currently use magic sheets so that is going to take time to prepare. But, if there is anything anyone can share with me that maybe they wish they knew prior to setting up a console, I am all ears (eyes.)

Thanks!

  • One thought based on what I'm reading into your post. Don't worry about anything that is saved in the show file. Frankly that's almost everything but your network/DMX and monitor settings.

While I'm a huge fan of 'template' files for a fast start, it takes time to really know what you want. I also know that church work is often running the same rig for nearly identical 'shows.' Since you can always save the current file (all versions are kept!) and make a new magic sheet or display set up or palettes or whatever, then you can easily go back to the other file. No loss for the long term and a benefit for the short term.

Touch screens will make huge changes in your process, but it to will take time to get there.
  • When adjusting the monitor angle, make sure you are pushing in the locking mechanism at the top of the monitor.
