Creating a Multi Cell Fixture. Master Channel Creation?

Hi Everyone,

I want to make a simple new multi cell fixture profile, but I can't find any info on how to create the Master Channel, so I'm unsure if it can't be done as a user or I'm just looking in the wrong place.

I have a 'pixel tube' which has 16 RGB cells, and I can easily just patch channel 1.1 thru .16 using a generic LED RGB 8B profile, that is straight forward and takes literally seconds.

I then tried creating a "LED RGB 8B MC" and putting in an intensity parameter, but I couldn't figure out a way to make it "virtual" or remove the DMX value from the profile. This didn't work when adding it to the master channel.

Last thing I tried was to copy a MC fixture with a master channel that had a virtual intensity, but copying that, renaming it and adding it to channel 1 just reverted it back to the original fixture that I copied, so i'm guessing their is more information attached to the Master Channel profile under the hood that can't be user configurable?

It's a shame if these aren't user configurable as the fixture that I'm trying to create couldn't be any more straightforward to create myself

Doing without the Master Channel and just patching in the cells is a work around for now, as colour groupings etc are flawless, but I just can't change overall intensity with the master channel, and have to control it instead with the cell channels.

Many thanks as always for your advise and help.

  • Thanks, this worked a treat.

I set up and addressed the fixtures without this vital bit acting as the master channel. I wouldn't suggest doing that, as if you tinker with the "master channel" fixture type then the cell data gets wiped out! my fault though for rushing ahead!

[Edit: workaround to stop this from happening- Sacrifice your first channel, change the master channel and repopulate the cells, then simply copy the good one to the rest of the rest of your fixtures with missing master channels, et viola, it only changes the master channel fixture type and the rest of the info stays put!]

    Cheers for your help all.
