Next Cue

2nd night of Mary Poppins light blocking and the lighting director is very confident now running the Element 2. I pointed out a quick way to save the next cue; [Record][Next][Enter] which he really liked only to tell my 5 minutes later he'd found (by accident) he could use [Record][Enter][Enter] and achieve the same result! Question, is there any difference between the two methods - I can't see anything obvious.

At home my screen shows the virtual keyboard icon top right but at the theatre it is not there! We have that little keyboard plugged. Would that make a difference? Between the two I far prefer the virtual keyboard.

  • Be careful! Record-Next-Enter is not the same as Record-Enter-Enter. You have to include the Next to increment the cue number.

Record-Enter-Enter will record over the existing cue that you are in. The second Enter is to confirm the "Are you Sure?" warning.

I would suggest that you and the LD pause after hitting Record or Update and make sure that the console is doing what you expect it to do before completing the command with Enter.

The virtual keyboard icon is not shown when you are using an actual console with a keypad- the rationale is that you have the physical keys in front of you which is faster than a virtual keyboard.
  • Woops. I was tired and confused. I was really after the pop up virtual QWRTY keyboard not the virtual console keypads. I saw somewhere you could press something and it would pop up - just like when you file/save as.
  • I dont know if this is the case with Element 2 but on the ION you can just plug in a normal PC keyboard which makes it a lot quicker for typing things in than the on screen keyboard.

(Also the same shortcuts work as on Nomads so if you are switching back and forth between the two and spend a lot of time on Nomads, you may find it quicker to go alt C or alt F for colour and focus than finding the key on the desk.)
  • Thanks Mike, I would be pretty certain a full size board would be OK but in the dark and with very limited desk space actually find the drop down virtual regular keyboard easier. I'll keep looking. It'll turn up!
