snapshots in a live situation - would like to ignore the master

In a live concert situation, we would like to use specific fader pages for certain songs. I am using fader snapshots to recall these pages but am facing the pending cues issue where the master playback records and recalls the pending cue at the time of recording. Is there a better way to do this? Or is there a way to ignore the master playback?

  • do you use snapshots to page to the correct fader page or to to page and then also set fader levels?

both can be done with a macro, a faderpage macro is simple, one that also sets faders to value needs a bit more typing but is very doable as well.

  • The snapshots are simply to go to fader pages with specific subs, playbacks, inhibitors, etc. No levels. I haven't considered macros until now. Part of the issue would maybe be that I'm not thinking about it in terms of fader pages. I'm using a snapshot to reassign what "fader page 1" is as we are only using the one page for simplicity. But I suppose that multiple fader pages and macros are more simple than multiple snapshots embedded into cues? Also, where is fader page data recorded to? I'm thinking the answer here is that they are just part of the show file?

  • What do you mean by fader page data? Which fader page your looking at? Or which targets are assigned to faders in higher pages?

All faders on all 100 pages are the same for all connected consoles and have their assignment saved in the showfile.

  • I setup at least one fader page for each song/performance I am doing.  That way I can set all the fader attributes for global fx masters, cue lists, and bump buttons/sub assignments and not have to worry about them.  I use macros to set the appropriate page on my console. Depending on the setting I will either have the macro triggered by a cue or have a DS page setup so I can quickly jump to whatever page/cue section I need for that performance.  I generally use snapshots to do the initial screen layout.

  • Thanks. Maybe I'll move to this. For some reason, I thought snapshots would be the way to go but macros don't record pending cues. Of course, I've done it with triggering macros before; we were just trying to keep everything to one fader page.

  • I don't think the granularity necessary to make snapshot faders useful is there yet.  When we can choose which faders we are snapshotting and what attributes of those faders then I might move to using snapshots for fader config in a realtime environment but for now I only have one snapshot that includes faders and that is my main console setup snapshot.  Just not enough control yet.
