can no longer talk to Capture Argo

Are you saying it was working and now its not and you didn't change anything?

If so most likely cause is the laptop is not connected to a network and even though both programs are on the machine it kind of needs the network up to talk from one to the other.

This is so strange. I’ve been using Capture for 20+ yrs and never needed to be online (inet). Just last week I used my laptop at work with no inet and it talked to Capture.

an individual on FB went out of his way to guide me into installing loopback (Thank You Lain) and now it works but people were posting they don’t need loopback.

one thing I have learned about computers and inet - there is always more to learn.

You don't actually need to be online as such, you just need a network interface that is in an up state.  Some machines and OS's shutdown the interface if its not connected to something.

One solution is indeed to install a loopback drvier (it always used to be installed by default on older windows o/s). 

Or you turn on wifi and connect to something, 

Or you plug in a network cable joined to a hub which doesn't need to be connected to anything else.

Any of those options should mean that windows loads a network stack and traffic can then flow between IP based things on the computer.

(the other thing to remember is sometimes other s/w you've loaded sets up the loopback, so it may have worked in the past due to other things you'd installed)
