Problem with patching Robe Spiider

Hi verybody

2 days ago, I tried to patch some Robe Spiider, but it didn't work. Well they received data but something was obviously wrong (flickering, no home position etc ). As it was in a venue where the guy built his own network, I thought that there is maybe something with the network or other consoles that have still access are messing around. So, I patched it with a Grand Ma2 and all spiiders worked well.

My idea was then to update the console, which I did and it was really necessary because I haven't used the console for 2 months during summer, and I went from version 2.6.3. directly to 2.7.3.10. Is that ok or do I have to update the console step by step? And in case of an update, is the library automatically updated too? If not, how do I only update the library?  I tried also that one, and I but the library update file on my usb stick, but the Gio couldn't find it. So probably I did something wrong.

I'm asking you, because after the update it still didn't work and I had a look at the fixture from the Gio library and I saw that the different attributes were not assigned to the right channels by comparing it to the tec sheet from Robe.

Am I wrong or is there a real problem concerning that or even more fixtures? Because, when you look at the library some fixtures are written in blue an some are written in white, does that mean something?

Thanks in advance

Kind regards

Marc

  • - you can go from software version A to C without going through B or B.x

    - fixture library is installed with the software, but sometimes there are updates that can be installed by copying the zip inside the downloaded zip in the root directory of a usb drive and then going to Shell > Settings > General > Software Update...

    - when you tried after the update, did you start with a new showfile or with a showfile created in an earlier version where you already had the fixture patched? whenever you patch a fixture and use a library personality Eos will copy that personality to the showfile and use this one. so even after updating to 2.7.3 you then would have used the personality from 2.6.3 . the spiider personalities were last updated in january, so you would have had the older version.

this all is of course assuming you had patched the correct mode and addressed correctly....

do you remember parameters that were wrong in the personality? like a parameter name that should be in slot x but is in slot y in the library?

  • Thank you for your answer!

I created a nex show file after updating and it hasn't worked. Yes the fixture was in the correct mode and also adressed correctly, wich I double checked with the Grand Ma.

I can't remember all the parameters but the first were supposed to be Pan, Tilt, Pan Fine, Tilt Fine, but pan fine and tilt didn't exist at all and the dimmer was somewhere around 20 instead of 32. In total the Robe Spiider has in mode 3, 33 channels. The fixture from the Etc library hat a footprint of 33, but only 30 parameters were assigned.

I will check that again when I have the time ;)

    Thanks

  • all parameters you mentioned are exactly where you say they should be: Pan Tilt in the beginning. Eos doesn't assign Pan and Pan fine, it just says Pan is 16bit. that's what happened here. pan is 1+2, tilt is 3+4.

Spiider has two intensities, one is assigned to address 28 (Intens 1, controls the flower effect), the other is 16bit and assigned to 32 and 33 (Intens 2, controls "regular" intensity). and then there is the virtual Intens parameter which masters both Intens1+2 together.

intens being 22 is just the parameter numbering. ignore it. look for the column to the right of the parameter name, it tells you which addresses it is assigned to.

i compared the DMX chart from the website to the personality in the library and it seems to match. the DMX chart refers to firmware 1.9, i don't know if anything changed? what firmware are your fixtures running?

last but not least: to make sure you have the same version of the fixture personality i do, can you go to Live, select the channel, open About, click Fixture Notes (bottom right corner). i have revision number 9, released 11 Jan 2018.
