EOS Classic shows network as online even if cable unplugged

EOS Classic, running 2.7.4 (backup)

EOS Classic RPU (master)

I had to move the console for a show and on restoring it to the booth, the Ethernet cable from the EOS didn't get plugged in at the wall network jack. I could not connect to the RPU or other devices.

The console reported that the network was online even though the cable was unplugged. Everything worked fine once the cable was plugged in.

I assume that the EOS network adapter is seeing that  it's internal 4-port switch is on and therefore assuming that the network is up. For troubleshooting purposes, it would be better if the console would look for some external network activity before reporting the network as online.

I didn't see anything about this as a known issue in the latest 2.7.4 release notes and I realize that the EOS classic is on its way out- just thought I'd bring it up in case it was an easy fix.

  • As you say its showing on line as its can a swtich that is powered up.

It would be a bit hard to do anything more as typically you wont have an internet connection so what could the desk know it would be able to talk to in the general case.  In general the kind of things like sACN or Artnet devices dont reply they just receive broadcast/unicast UDP traffic.  So a connected and working network would be silent other than the the EOS device sending data.
