Dmx causing calibration error

I have a cheap generic moving head. Essentially the same as an adj inno pocket spot. When i turn it on, it calibrates and then does nothing[as expected], but when i plug in the dmx cable it begins calibration again, works for about 5 seconds then starts again. It has worked normally for about a month and now wont work. Anyone know why?

    Sounds like something is mis patched.

    Usually the last channel on moving heads is the reset,  set that channel to no some value for a while (eg 5 seconds) and the fixture does a reset like you are seeing.

    I had on fixture that persistently did that  randomly mid show and would sweep the audience with a beam as it came back on line,  nearly binned it.  And then realised that when I had made the patch profile myself I had not put in the last channel and so when I patched another fixture at the next free space, setting that fixture to a certain value caused the moving head to reset as described.
