ETC Element Network Setup

Hi guys,

I'm trying to set up a network so that I can use the RFR app with the element in my theatre. Looking through the set up documents in ETC website and various posts on the forums I think im getting there. However every time I try it still doesn't seem to work. I've attached some pictures to show what I have done and just wanted to check it looked alright?

As its not clear from the pictures I have DHCP turned on, on both the console and router (Not sure if this is right as looking online I kept getting different answers)

Console: ETC Element V2.6.3

App: iRFR Classic

Router: Wavlink N300

  • Looks good so far.

Could you update the Element to current version. 2.7.4 Software?

Could you also send a photo of network settings of iPhone?

Its possible that the DHCP of your Element is not getting thru to your iphone, and you may need to turn on alternatively the DHCP Server in the Router to give the iphone a correct address. Personally, I leave DHCP off and set the iPhone WLAN connection to a set IP: 10.101.124.101, Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0, and Default Gateway: 10.101.1.1

  • Two devices can not be DHCP servers on the same network.

Only one device can be the IP Server. It's quite possible the WIFI Router & Console are giving your mobile phone different IPs and therefore they can't communicate.

For more info on Networking, check out this ETC Video.

  • I wrote „turn on ALTERNATIVELY the DHCP in the Router“.

  • I saw.... Only one device should be the DHCP server on a local network. Pick one and stick with it.

Right now, if we're just talking an iRFR/aRFR, it doesn't matter which device is DHCP host.

... I'd also be curious if OP had a Router subnet mask blocking the mobile from communicating. (Subnet 255.255.255.0 would not allow a device of 10.101.50.101 to communicate with the console at 10.101.101.101)

On my IonXe, the Router is the DHCP server for the aRFR network. The console is the DHCP for the show control network.

  • There are really two different ways you can set this up, which is why there is a lot of confusion. It looks like you probably have a hybrid of the two which is why its not working for you

On the back of the router the ethernet sockets will be labeled with one being the WAN or wide area network or internet.

If you plug the element into that one then you would set things up as follows

Both the element and the router should have dhcp enabled (and everything else just the default it would have setup when you put it  in router mode - if you played with its settings reset it to factory default)

Your iphone when connected to the router, if everything is correct,  will get a router assigned address like 192.x.x.x   not 101.x.x.x

You should then be able to connect to the console with its IP address as your photo 101.101.101.101

The alternative is to plug the element not into the WAN port but that may take a bit more config, in that case you would setup as follows

turn off dhcp on the router - again make sure everything else is as the factory default

assign a static address to the router  101.101.101.1  mask 255.255.0.0 to match how you have set the element (if you dont do this you may not be able to connect to it to configure if needed)

When your iphone connects to the route check to see if it was assigned an address like 101.101.50.x

If it gets that then you should be able to connect to the console with its IP address as your photo 101.101.101.101

Let us know how you get on either success or if it fails where

  • Excuse me? You tell me to have just one DHCP Server in response to me saying to have one on the Element OR on the Router for the iPhone, but you finish saying that you do exactly that: have one on your Ion AND on your Router. Too much eggnog at the Christmas Party?

  • I agree with Mike that we need more information on how things are connected to the router. That will determine how to proceed.

I will note that in his answer, the first number in the IP addresses should be 10 (ten) not 101 (one hundred and one).

  • Reposted this and will delete the original (if I can) as for some reason edit option is no longer showing and I need to correct the 101 that should have been a 10 as Todd pointed out, as its confusing enough without my mistype !!

  • I have two ports on my Xe20. Two different networks. One DHCP on each network.

    Why so abusive?

I can't tell you how many times I've done that. Had to factory rest a router or two for that exact reason.
