remote trigger

Hi Folks,

I am using an ion recently and I am building a remote trigger box for it. I have one for the expression that worked great. I'd wire it into the practical light switch, and then the actor would hit it, and that would trigger a macro, and that would trigger a submaster. Obviously it is much more accurate doing this way, then taking a verbal go over a radio from someone who is watching the action from 10 feet away.

Has anyone built one of these things yet and if so did it work as anticipated? On page 279 of the ion manual is the pin out for the trigger box. It appears that the box does not do macros but only, go, pause, back, master. Perhaps it is just not in the documentaion but I'd really prefer to trigger a maco than a cue. anyone know if that is possible?

Thanks,

Jim

Happy Holidays

  • Jim,

The pinout diagram in the manual is wrong.

You can configure the Remote Trigger Inputs to run a cue, control a submaster, and fire a macro. You will not need to write a macro to do what you described. You can configure the input to bump the sub and the sub to Hold.

Take a look at the "Analog Inputs" section on page 257 of the manual for details.

  • Dennis,

Thanks for catching that error, it explains a lot.

Programing the port and sub are easy. What I'm confused about now is the input address number. From the manual, pg 279

Analog Input events fire when the analog input passes a certain level. Action types supported are
the same as Time Code; run a cue, control a submaster, and fire a macro.
Create an Analog Input Event where an input on address 1 will fire Cue 10.
    • <Event> [4] [/] [1] {Address} [1] [Cue] [1] [0] [Enter]

Is switch 1 input address 1, switch 2 address 2, etc?

The remote trigger port on the back also appears to be able to send out voltage to close relay switches. Is that right? Seems to sort of weird to be able to send out voltage on a port that can also receive voltage. Wouldn't that make it way to easy to mistakenly short out the port?

    Thanks,

    Jim

  • Programing the port and sub are easy << i mean macro and sub.

  • just to help out anyone who comes along this thread.

I got it working without too much trouble.

Hit displays open show control under “record target list"

    Event 1/1 (enter)

hit type and change it to analog (enter)

    source 1 (enter)

hit address (softkey) 1 (macro)99 (enter)

the address refers to the physical switch that is described in the schematic for the remote trigger.

(Contact Closure (remote trigger connector), page 279. (ion manual 1.4 revB))

You can combine all those commands into a single line if you want.

It WILL NOT work until you return to Live.
